How to manually install your SSL certificate
Installing an SSL is straightforward. Follow these four simple steps to secure your website, or simply ask our support team to do it for you for free.
Gather Your SSL Files
To install SSL on a website, two files are required: the website's SSL certificate (usually .crt) and the private key.
Upload the SSL Files
Use FTP or File Manager to access your server. Then, upload both the certificate and private key files to their designated locations.
Configure Your Server
Server software, such as Apache, Nginx, or cPanel, requires instructions to locate the uploaded certificate and key files.
Restart Your Server
After finalizing the server configuration, move on to implement the changes by simply restarting your web server.

SSL Certificates FAQs
Get clear answers about our security services, or let our team assist you instantly.
Why Do I Need an SSL Certificate?
An SSL certificate creates a secure, encrypted connection between your website and your visitor's browser. This protects sensitive data (like passwords and credit cards) from theft. Furthermore, Google ranks secure sites higher, and browsers display a "Secure" padlock, building trust with your users.
What types of SSL certificates are available with AplicHost?
We offer three main types: Domain Validation (DV) for blogs and personal sites, Organization Validation (OV) for businesses requiring identity verification, and Extended Validation (EV) for maximum trust (Green Address Bar) ideal for e-commerce and banks. We also offer Wildcard certificates to secure unlimited subdomains.
Which AplicHost SSL certificate do I need?
If you have a personal blog, a RapidSSL (DV) is sufficient. If you run a business website, we recommend GeoTrust True BusinessID (OV). For online stores processing payments, the EV Certificate is the best choice to maximize sales. If you have many subdomains (shop.site.com, blog.site.com), choose a Wildcard.
How Long Does an SSL Certificate Last?
Standard SSL certificates are issued for a maximum of 1 year (397 days) due to industry security standards. However, you can purchase multi-year plans (2 or 3 years) with us to lock in a lower price. We will automatically re-issue the certificate for you each year.
Do SSL Certificates Affect Website Speed?
Modern SSL certificates actually improve speed. They allow your site to use the HTTP/2 protocol, which is significantly faster than the old HTTP/1.1. The encryption overhead is negligible on modern servers.
How does an SSL certificate work in a browser?
When a user visits your site, the SSL certificate initiates a "SSL Handshake". It validates your server's identity and creates a unique session key. All data sent thereafter is encrypted, meaning only the user's browser and your server can read it.
Can I transfer an SSL certificate from one server to another?
Yes, absolutely. You can export your certificate and private key from the current server and import them to the new one. If you are moving to AplicHost, our support team can handle this entire process for you for free.
